“Holy Hell” is a genre-defying single; a combination of pop, alt-rock, and electronic all at once. Drawing inspiration from a multitude of sources, Amy Guess is an artist with an iconic musical style. The strong emotive vocals and dark industrial sounds heard through her music can be related to influences from other artists such as K.Flay, Sia, and Garbage. Recorded at Tokoloshe Studios in Los Angeles, the band took a new approach to releasing their latest album. “After looking at streaming analytics, we realized that the entire system has never been more geared toward individual tracks,” explains Johnny Kongos. “It didn’t make sense to release an album all at once and have the majority of the songs overlooked by the ‘algorithm overlords.’ We wanted each song to be featured in some way, so we decided to release one single at a time, finally culminating in the full album.” This release plan allowed the band to connect with their fans each week. It also gave the tracks their own time to shine, including fan favorites such as “Western Fog,” the album’s lead single that focuses on internal conflict, “Fools,” a track about combating your fears, the electric pulsating song, “Push,” and their unreleased catchy, rock single, “In My Chest.” The KONGOS brothers all contribute to the songwriting process, taking turns singing the lead vocals in accordance with who wrote the song. “1929: Part 2 for us is an exciting cross section of the direction that each individual member is taking, as well as the band as a whole.”

The four KONGOS brothers – Johnny, Jesse, Dylan, and Danny – had their first official show sixteen years ago in 2003, but have been playing together longer than they can remember.  The brothers learned how to master several instruments at a young age from their father, John Kongos and have lived all around the world from Johannesburg, South Africa, to London, to Phoenix, and now Los Angeles. Their years of practice, writing, and touring have led to a multi-platinum certification for their hit single, “Come With Me Now,” sync placements on commercial campaigns for HBO, CNN, ESPN, NFL, Universal Studios, Samsung Galaxy, American Idol, MTV Movie Awards, and PlayStation 4, appearances on Late Night With Seth Myers, Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, and The Today Show, and press in major publications like Rolling Stone, USA Today and more.

The front-woman for Bad Wolf, Kota Wade, understands that listeners can get lost in the dreamy flow of their new single, and makes a point to illustrate that the context of the song can not be found at surface level.  As a queer woman, Wade wanted to create an LGBT storyline that brought to surface internal conflicts she faces and what she has to sacrifice to make her way in the world. “It’s important to me to feature themes that don’t often get seen in a male-dominated rock world,” explains Wade. “Representation has always been important to us as a band.”  The main theme of “Breathing Underwater” is about finding your place in the world. “The song is about deciding to follow your heart to love, even if it takes sacrifice and change.” With a consistent theme tied to the ocean, the self-produced song brings a dramatic tone with its lyrics and cinematic sound.

Based in Los Angeles, Bad Wolf has been creating their own unique version of alt-pop by forging together sci-fi and fantasy with a touch of Goth rock.  With sounds similar to Evanescence, Paramore, and Birthday Massacre, Bad Wolf has the competitive advantage of having different influences and musical backgrounds along with the skills of self-production. The duo, consisting of Kota Wade and Tommy Oleksyn, has diverse accolades, which range from performing with Echosmith and We Came As Romans, having over a million views on YouTube, to performing annually at the Labyrinth Of Jareth Masquerade Ball, one of North America’s largest fantasy events.

“La Bufadora” was inspired by the patterns of calm and emotional turmoil in Goss’ relationship with his husband. “I’ve spent the majority of my career talking about the most beautiful aspects of my love and marriage. I wrote ‘La Bufadora’ after a very sad trip to Mexico, which included a lot of fighting, crying, breaking, and healing,” Goss explains. “I wanted to speak to our longing and our efforts to stay connected and move forward, regardless of the imperfections.”

Co-written and produced by Ian Carmichael, “La Bufadora” represents the way that Goss fights for his marriage through tough times. “As the uplifting bridge rises from the heaviness of the chorus, I sing about how we can choose to create the world we live in… The truth is, we have the power to turn all of our sadness into positivity. It’s not easy, and we aren’t required to do it, but it is beautiful when it happens.”

For the video, Goss decided to fictionalize and exaggerate the theme of conflict in order to highlight the issue of domestic abuse in LGBTQ community–just in time for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. Statistics show that within the LGBTQ community, intimate partner violence occurs at a rate equal to or even higher than that of the heterosexual community.

Filmed in an abandoned condo development in Baja California, and at La Bufadora itself (an ocean blowhole just south of Ensenada), the video stars Daniel Franzese (Mean Girls) and was directed by Michael Serrato. Goss also produced a Spanish-language version of the song and video since it is set in Mexico.

Goss was raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He went to college in Missouri on a wrestling scholarship and planned to be a schoolteacher until making a surprise decision to become a Catholic priest. Frustrated by a series of #MeToo experiences in the seminary, Goss began to discover his voice in songwriting and performing. His songs have been heard on ABC, HBO, and Univision, and his inventive music videos have been viewed more than 12 million times.
